Although the transfer window has closed, Mansfield Town can still sign players.
There are still plenty of free agents available with lots of League One experience who could provide Nigel Clough with the bargain he seeks.
Former Norwich City player Josh Martin, Connor Wickham, and ex-Pompey player Ronan Curtis are three such players.
Stags won the shoot-out 5-4 following a 1-1 tie after 90 minutes thanks to Rhys Oates’ late goal, and are in the third round for the first time since 2005.
“We were so unlucky not to get a result here last year in the FA Cup, so this helps to make up for it,” Clough said, smiling.
“I thought we played absolutely superbly in the second half; the only question was whether we could score or not,” the player said. In the end, what a goal that was, with 32 passes leading up to it and an amazing burst of speed and finishing..
“This is not a coincidence or an isolated incident.” We have a perfect record since we have performed well in five out of our six games.
“Their goal was a little soft in the end,” he continued. Lewis Brunt was probably tugged out of position, but it was a good cross, a great head back, and a straightforward finish from there.

We didn’t, in my opinion, take advantage of the advantageous first-half situations we were in. However, the players and defenders we faced were superior.
“In the second half, we just needed that one moment of brilliance.” After the second-half performance, it was well deserved. As the game went on, we tried to grow more assured.
Clough said of Pym’s saves on Wednesday: “Once it went to penalties, it was a lottery, and Pymy came up with the saves.”
“I thought we were due a break,” the speaker said. “I think with them going through on penalties in the first round, to win two on the trot doesn’t happen very often.”
“I think Christy did an excellent job. You have to when you visit a Championship club that has practically a full squad. Your goalie and defenders will have to play well, and Christy made some vital saves.
At halftime, we advised them to maintain their lead of 1-0 because anything may happen, much like in this weekend’s match between Newcastle and Liverpool. The game is over if you give up for even a second.
“I don’t care who we play, but I’d prefer a home match.”
