Many people are speculating about Pep Guardiola’s ability to transition from club to national management in light of rumors that the FA may seek him if Gareth Southgate stands down as England manager in 2024.
Despite the fact that England hasn’t won a major tournament since 1966, Southgate has given the country newfound optimism. And there is a claim that Southgate may have advanced this team as far as he can when they were defeated by France in the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.
Could Southgate’s successor at Manchester City lead the team farther than he has?
Guardiola has brought nothing but success to Manchester United since his arrival, winning five Premier League championships in his seven years at the Etihad and amassing a total of 15 trophies, including the Champions League. It is hardly surprising that the FA would think about contacting the Catalan manager.
Additionally, many members of the England team, like Phil Foden, Jack Grealish, John Stones, and Kyle Walker, already have positive relationships with Guardiola. He’s had success doing so in the past while working with England’s best players.
His capacity to instill a winning mindset could be crucial for the Three Lions considering that the England squad is loaded with talents of the present and the future like Jude Bellingham, Bukayo Saka, and Declan Rice.
Introduce young players into the lineup has been one thing England has excelled at under Southgate. The City Manager would keep doing this, and people like Foden, Cole Palmer, Rico Lewis, and Oscar Bobb would gain from his expertise.
And with so many young players joining the group for England, Guardiola, a proven winner, is the ideal coach for them. Although leaving the City organization would be shocking, the coach has already acknowledged that he would be eager to try his hand at the international level.
He acknowledged, “I would like to be an international manager of a national squad. It will happen because I would like to be involved every three days but with a little more calmness and play more golf because I currently don’t have the time to do so. If I have a chance with an international squad, if they come knocking at my door, it will happen sooner or later.
There is no doubt that Guardiola would do admirably at the international level; should the Three Lions approach, City will only have to hope the allure of the England job isn’t too great.
