Confirmed and a Major Blow: Newcastle confirm 25-man Premier League squad list with £58m duo left out

By Friday, Newcastle must submit a squad of 25 senior players to the Premier League. The squad submission deadline is one week after the transfer window closes.

After defeating Aston Villa 5-1 on the first day of the 2023–24 Premier League season, United has struggled to start, dropping three of their first four games. This comes after Eddie Howe’s team only suffered defeat five times during the league season of 2022–23.
Sandro Tonali, Harvey Barnes, Tino Livramento, and Lewis Hall were all added to United’s first team over the summer.

Premier League clubs are expected to provide a list of 25 senior players who are qualified to play in league matches after the summer and winter transfer windows. Senior players who are not listed on a club’s squad list are not eligible to play in top-flight games, but they are still allowed to participate in cup events.

25 players who were born before January 1, 2002 must be included on the 2023–24 Premier League roster. ‘Homegrown’ players must make up at least eight of the 25-man roster.

The 25-man squad is not necessary for players to be eligible to play if they were born on or before January 1, 2002.

A homegrown player is what?
Any player enrolled to an English FA affiliated club for three years before the age of 21—regardless of nationality—is considered a homegrown player.

Individuals absent from Newcastle United’s 25-man Premier League roster

No senior players who are still with the club are anticipated to miss out on Newcastle’s 25-man squad, despite the absence of players like Emil Krafth, Mark Gillespie, Matt Ritchie, and Javier Manquillo from the club’s Champions League group stage team.

Jamal Lewis, Harrison Ashby, Isaac Hayden, Jeff Hendrick, and Ryan Fraser were among the players who might have been left out who all left on loans during the summer transfer window.

A number of players under the age of 21 will also help the team.

Summer enlistments Elliot Anderson, 20, Tino Livramento, 20, Lewis Hall, 19, and Lewis Miley, 17, will all be able to participate despite not being named to the team due to their ages. After a strong preseason performance, 19-year-old center back Alex Murphy will also add to the defense’s protection.
