The Three Lions manager is scheduled to leave the position next summer, and bookmakers have already began to speculate on where he might go next.
Crystal Palace have emerged as early 12/1 favourites in the latest Gareth Southgate future job odds, according to SportsLens exclusive odds.
Southgate began his career with the Eagles, where he made 191 appearances and scored 22 goals over a seven-year stint that included captaining the club to the First Division title in 1993-94.
Palace’s first-team manager is now Roy Hodgson, but his contract is likely to expire at the end of the season, opening the door to a potential Southgate appointment.
The current England manager is also 16/1 to return to another of his previous clubs, Aston Villa, with similar odds linking him to head coaching jobs at Norwich and Rangers.
“Following the news that Gareth Southgate is considering leaving his role with England after the European Championship in Germany next summer – it’s no surprise to see his former club Crystal Palace priced as the favourites to snap him up,” SportsLens Head of announcement Lee Astley stated. Southgate was once the captain at Selhurst Park, and with Roy Hodgson’s contract set to expire next summer, a return to south London might be seriously considered.
“Aston Villa, another former club of Southgate’s, is the second favourite, alongside Norwich and Rangers, but with the way things are going under Unai Emery at Villa Park right now – it’s difficult to believe the Spaniard won’t be there for the long haul.” He might, though, be signed by another team, opening the door for Southgate to take over in the Midlands.”
England drew 1-1 with Ukraine in Poland on Saturday in their latest Euro 2024 qualifier, according to Southgate.
They will now go to Hampden Park on Tuesday, September 11 to play a friendly against Scotland.
