Brentford failed in a late offer for Wellington from So Paulo but have been given a second chance as his deal to CSKA Moscow fell through.
That’s according to Mundo Rubro Negro, who covered the Brentford bid today and provided some additional information after reports yesterday.
We reported yesterday on a rumour from Brazil stating that Brentford was interested in Wellington and had offered €4.5 million for him.
This came after weeks of rumours about the Bees and the 22-year-old, who had been connected during the summer and had several bids rejected for him.
According to the article, Brentford’s €4.5 million bid, which included 30% of a future sale, was rejected, but the player was reportedly ready to join CSKA Moscow in Russia for €6 million.
That would have been disappointing for the Bees, who had certainly come near but were quoted €20 million at one time and pulled away.
The player ‘nearly went to play in England’ this summer, according to Mundo Rubro Negro, after Brentford offered R$23 million to So Paulo for 70% of his rights. This amounts to €4.42 million in total.
The bid was turned down, and that was the end of the story for this summer. However, it is not all terrible news because the defender did not end up at CSKA Moscow as planned.
Instead, it appears that his transfer to the Russian team did not take place since the club decided to back out of the contract due to medical concerns.
“In connection with the incomplete data received following the results of the remote medical examination in Sao Paulo, the club’s medical management asked itself certain questions,” Communications Manager Krill Breido on the topic is reported as saying.
That gives Brentford a chance to sign the Brazilian, and they now know the exact price So Paulo will take for him.
