According to the Echo, former player Lee Cattermole and Sunderland held preliminary negotiations about the post of under-18s head coach.

Following his retirement as a player in 2020, the 35-year-old was named as the head coach of Middlesbrough’s under-18s team in January last year. Cattermole, on the other hand, left his work in Teesside in February and has been without a stable job since.

 

However, it is understood that Cattermole and Sunderland have mutually agreed not to proceed beyond their initial discussions.
