BREAKING NEWS: Judge Final verdict on Director and Manchester City ‘alleged corruption’ charges

González Dans, the former director of Deportivo La Coruna, was found not guilty of misappropriating funds or conspiring with Manchester City in a transaction for defender Angelio.

That’s according to AS, who covered the story today, as well as a subsequent court judgement that found Dans and Manchester City not guilty of any wrongdoing.

Así se fraguó la dimisión de José González-Dans, director general del Deportivo

Dans had found himself accused by Deportivo’s present administration of robbing the club of approximately €400,000 in payments pertaining to Angelino’s departure to Manchester City earlier in his career.

The Spanish club claimed Dans acted improperly and prevented the club from receiving €447,994 as part of the defender’s €4.5 million move to the Etihad in 2013.
Essentially, the Spanish club was owed a portion of the €895,988 transfer fee that sent Angelino from Manchester City to PSV Eindhoven in 2018.
The first was paid, and the second was due, but Manchester City exercised a buy option to get him back from PSV, and Dans ruled City didn’t have to pay the second half of the initial deal via a fairly complicated rationale.

Öncelik Angelio

The current Deportivo board was unhappy, claiming it was a ‘undue appropriation’ and bringing the case to court.

They mentioned ‘alleged corruption’ briefly in their claim since they claimed Dans had been rewarded by Manchester City for his activities. This came in two parts: the first was the chance to join Girona, a member of the City Football Group, and the second was an invitation to the Champions League final.

The presiding court, however, rejected both, claiming that the first was invalid since the job was advertised on LinkedIn rather than directly through Manchester City. The latter was rejected because he believed the distance between the two events was too large to consider them to be related.

Thus, Dans and City were found to have done nothing unlawful, and the case is now closed, much to Deportivo’s chagrin.
