The now-Leicester City man praised the young goalkeeper on Instagram (20 September) after he signed a two-year contract extension with the Merseyside club.
Cannon joined Everton in the summer after a successful Championship loan at Preston North End, while Crellin awaits his senior Toffees debut.
One to remember for the future
Crellin will be anxious to make his senior Everton debut, but the 23-year-old will have to wait his turn with Jordan Pickford and Joao Virginia ahead of him.
The outpouring of support for the young goalkeeper on social media shows that he is a well-liked asset at Goodison Park, with first-team player Lewis Dobbin expressing his delight at his new contract.
Crellin has been a regular in the Toffees’ junior system, but their season in the Premier League 2 has not started well. Crellin has conceded seven goals in just two outings for the Toffees, who are currently bottom of the division.
“[I’d like to] get to January and go out on loan and show everyone here at the club what I’m capable of.” Then return the following season and proceed from there.”
He sees a bright future in Merseyside, but his path to first-team football may be a long one.
