JUST IN: Nott’m Forest has table a damaging Celtic raid as Club agreed deal for January transfer

TEAMtalk believes that Nottingham Forest are considering a transfer for Celtic youngster Rocco Vata.

Vata is in the final year of his Celtic contract and has so far rejected talks about a new agreement at Celtic Park.

The story has alerted a number of clubs throughout Europe about Vata’s possible availability for a low-cost fee in January or as a free agent next summer.

The aggressive midfielder has progressed through the ranks at Celtic, making four first-team appearances under Ange Postecoglou last season.

Vata has been advised by Brendan Rodgers that his first-team opportunities will be limited this season, hence he has been limited to appearances with Celtic B in the Lowland League.

This season, the dynamic attacker has thrived at that level, scoring six goals in five games.

Forest have long admired Vata and have been monitoring his contract status with the Scottish champions.

Forest are keen to strengthen their academy set-up by adding young players who can be developed into first-team players, and they regard Vata as a potential star in the making.

If Vata does finally transfer to the City Ground, he will become the latest Celtic prospect to leave the Scottish powerhouse before properly making his impact north of the line.

Ben Doak, dubbed the “Scottish Messi,” was tempted away from Celtic in 2022 for £600,000 by Liverpool.

On Tuesday, the 17-year-old signed a new and better deal at Anfield, and he might make his debut in the Reds’ Europa League opener against Austrian side LASK on Thursday evening.
