Tony Mowbray has claimed that he has pushed the Sunderland side to make it four wins in a row when they face Cardiff City on Sunday.
After starting the season with two straight defeats, Sunderland has recovered and climbed to fourth place in the league table with a five-match unbeaten streak.
Sunderland will host Cardiff City at the Stadium of Light this weekend, who have also won their past two games.
Mowbray admits that winning three games in a row in the Championship is a difficult task, but he has challenged his Sunderland squad to make it four in a row against Cardiff on Sunday.
The Black Cats manager feels Cardiff will be confident because they are also on a winning streak, and he expects a competitive contest between the two sides.
“The team is working well,” Mowbray told Sunderland’s media.
“I just mentioned how difficult it is to win three games in a row in the Championship.”
“It’s quite difficult.
“I just challenged them there about doing four on the trot on Sunday.”
“Our biggest threat in that game will be ourselves.”
“We have to show up and make sure we’re right at it, because we’re playing a top, top team, and Cardiff, I believe, has won back-to-back games now, so they’ll be on a high.”
“It should be a great game, but it’s also a great opportunity for us to keep racking up the points.”
Sunderland has 13 points from seven games and is three points ahead of tenth-placed Cardiff City heading into Sunday’s match.
