According to a Swansea Independent source, Swansea City is interested in signing Devante Cole, the talented striker currently playing for Barnsley.
Swansea City hired Michael Duff as manager in the summer, replacing Russell Martin, who had moved to Barnsley. Since then, things haven’t been easy for the former Tykes manager, with the Swans winless in seven games and 22nd in the Championship standings.
If the Welsh team remains towards the bottom of the standings in January, some new players might be required.
It is now alleged that Duff has already picked out a potential victim. According to The Swansea Independent, Duff has suggested Barnsley star Devante Cole as a potential acquisition for the upcoming season.
The 28-year-old, who played at Oakwell for the Swansea manager, is off to a strong start this season, scoring eight goals in eight League One contests. He has emerged as a player of interest for the Swans due to his prolific scoring ability, but only time will tell if their interest persists past January or grows further.
Cole has a deal with the Tykes till the end of this current campaign.
An early goal for Swansea City
Before the transfer window in January, there is still plenty of time. The summer window actually opened again at the beginning of this month.
However, clubs throughout the nation will already be identifying issue areas in their team, and Swansea has a few. Although Duff has claimed the club will continue to support him, it remains to be seen how long he will hold the position if these difficulties continue. Duff is already facing increased criticism from fans.
Hopefully, Duff and Swansea City can get beyond these growing pains and find their groove. The hope is that his team can start to win games quickly because he did a good job at Barnsley and came to South Wales with a good reputation.
When possible winter targets are moare in the spotlight, Cole appears to be one of them.
