The former Villarreal winger was one of the Rossoneri’s most anticipated signings this summer, but he has yet to make an impact.
As AC Milan prepares to face Hellas Verona in Serie A today, head coach Stefano Pioli has urged Nigerian winger Samuel Chukwueze to adapt and develop his style, according to Soccernet.ng.
Despite being pleased with Chukwueze’s performance in Tuesday’s UEFA Champions League match against Newcastle United, Pioli has stated that he wants more from the young Nigerian recruit.
Chukwueze, who joined the Rossoneri from Villarreal in La Liga, made his debut against Newcastle last week but failed to make an impact, forcing him to be replaced by Christian Pulisic after only 61 minutes.
AC Milan and the English Premier League team played to a goalless draw.
The 24-year-old has yet to score or assist in five outings for AC Milan across all competitions.
Pioli commented on the team’s overall performance, stressing Chukwueze’s impact and areas where he expects the Nigerian winger to improve.
“I want Samu to be very open; he is used to cutting inside the pitch,” Pioli said in a press conference on Friday.
“He still needs to work on his timing and movements, but he did well.” I’m pleased with his performance, and I believe he will improve.
“In Newcastle’s first half, the plan was to target a full-back with another pass.” We didn’t use him much in the first half, so I brought him on. But we’re pleased with Chukwueze’s performance.”
AC Milan will square off against Hellas Verona in a Serie A match on Saturday.
