Manchester City’s Premier League dominance will eventually fade, according to Premier League CEO Richard Masters.
The league executive was eager to remind everyone that dominance in the Premier League comes and goes, and Manchester City’s is no exception.
The Etihad club has won three consecutive Premier League titles, as well as five of the last six. They have a stranglehold on the English top division as well, having won six domestic cups and the UEFA Champions League in the seven years since Pep Guardiola joined the club.
Masters spoke candidly on City’s future possibilities in an interview with Football Daily.
“I think if you ask Pep Guardiola, he’d say it hasn’t been easy, but the record speaks for itself, they have won five of the last six (Premier League titles),” Masters added.
“However, regimes come and go, and empires rise and fall.” We’ve seen that in the Premier League’s 32-year existence, and [Manchester] City will be the same in the end. Someone will eventually take over.
“Whether it’s next season or the one after that.” I’m not sure when that happens. But the most important thing is that we have competition at the very top of the division.
“There is always a title race in the Premier League, and we want that.” We’ll have rivalry for European spaces, and I’m confident the relegation battle will be as interesting as ever.”
While the Sky Blues’ domination appears to be waning, it does not appear to have begun yet, with Manchester City starting the 2023/24 season with a perfect seven victories from seven in all competitions.
City will return to Premier League action after defeating UEFA Champions League Group G opponents Red Star Belgrade earlier this week.
