Tottenham manager Ange Postecoglou may have given a hint of his early team news ahead of this weekend’s game against Liverpool by declaring that both James Maddison and Son Heung-min, who were both injured in the Arsenal game, are alright.
Under Postecoglou, the Lilywhites have shown a new side to their game, coming back twice to earn a point, keep their unbeaten run going, and earn the respect of their fans.
Spurs fans’ hearts were in their mouths when James Maddison fell down and required extensive treatment, but Postecoglou insisted that both he and captain Son were alright.
Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino told reporters at the Emirates Stadium: “Madders and Sonny went into it and they weren’t 100 percent going into the game, but they got through it – which suggests to me that it is nothing serious.”
Spurs continue to prosper despite the absence of several key players who have historically made them better when fit, notably Rodrigo Bentancur, Giovani Lo Celso, Bryan Gil, and Ryan Sessegnon.
The first two are making tremendous progress and could be included after the next international break, with Ange Postecoglou confirming that Bentancur has been participating in training with the team despite the fact that they must be cautious not to bring him back too soon.
“Rehab is the most difficult part,” remarked the Spurs manager. Talk to any player; it’s not just the work, but the lone component of it. He was buzzing yesterday, but that is a good thing. He has a lot of work to do, and it’s terrific to have him involved. Of course, he was disappointed when we had to pull him out after half an hour.”
