Everton have been drawn at home against Burnley in the Carabao Cup’s Fourth Round. The Blues arrived following two consecutive 2-1 away victories, against Doncaster Rovers and Aston Villa earlier today.
Burnley defeated Salford City in the third round to advance to the fourth round. The Clarets are manager Sean Dyche’s previous club, and former Manchester City midfielder Vincent Kompany is currently in charge.
The Toffees’ journey to Wembley will resume on either Tuesday October 31st or Wednesday November 1st, following their league away game against West Ham United.
The Blues last played at Goodison Park against Burnley in early 2021-22, with Rafa Benitez presiding over a 3-1 victory with Dyche in charge of the visitors.
In their 141-year history, the Blues have never won this competition, but they have been finalists twice, once against Aston Villa in 1977 and once against Liverpool in 1984. Their participation in the tournament last season lasted only until the Third Round, when they were eliminated in a sudden-death penalty shootout at Queens Park Rangers after the two sides had tied 2-2 after regular time.
In Round Two, thirteen Premier League clubs that were not competing in European events entered the Cup. The Carabao Cup remains regionalised in the early rounds, with the draw divided into two halves until Round Three.
