Deal very close: Di Marzio delivers new update- Leeds united on the verge of signing 26-year-old on a free agent

Leeds United are one of three English clubs interested in Philadelphia Union left-back Kai Wagner, and we would be silly not to make a move, according to Gianluca Di Marzio.

Wagner, 26, has been a standout in Major League Soccer for the past four years. He made a surprising move to Union from his home nation in 2019, and has since played 165 times for the MLS club, contributing 36 goals.

Kai Wagner has interest from Leeds United, Stuttgart and more, but is still with the Philadelphia Union. Here's why.

The German is a real talent and one of the most reliable full-backs in American soccer. What makes matters more fascinating is that Wagner’s contract with Union is set to expire on December 31. Available for free.

Wagner is expected to quit his present team when his contract expires, according to Di Marzio. He is already available for pre-contract negotiations, having entered the final six months of his current Union contract.

According to the Italian journalist, Leeds, West Ham, and Brentford have all expressed interest in the last 18 months. English, Italian, and German clubs are also available. Leeds clearly has a soft spot for defender Wagner.

Leeds would be silly not to pursue Kai Wagner.
Leeds cannot afford to miss out on Di Marzio’s free move, as reported by Di Marzio. Leeds definitely tried to upgrade their left-back position throughout the summer, with Luke Thomas being a target.

However, Leeds failed to sign a left-sided defender, which is still a position in need of development. Sam Byram has thrived, however he is prone to injuries and is right-footed. Junior Firpo has been hurt, and his future is uncertain.

So, if a player like Wagner is available on a free transfer and is capable of scoring, creating, and defending well, Leeds must act. He would be a fantastic signing from January onwards.
