According to a source, Everton have identified a prospective replacement to manager Sean Dyche, although another Premier League club is also interested.
Sean Dyche is leaving Everton.
Everton’s first Premier League win of the season came against Brentford at the weekend, so it seems strange that they are being linked to Dyche replacements, but Wayne Rooney has also lately been identified as a potential long-term possibility.
Journalist Paul Brown told GiveMeSport: “I’m sure Rooney would love to take on a job like that at some point.” He’s had an unusual relationship with the club, going from hero to villain in the eyes of many.
I don’t think he departed under especially happy circumstances the last time. He’s making a name for himself as a manager now, and it’s certainly feasible that he’ll wind up at Everton one day. But I believe we are still a long way from that.”
Although the Toffees’ fortunes appears to be improving following a stunning 3-1 victory at the Gtech Community Stadium, there are rumors that they have a backup plan in place should they decide to break ways with their boss.
According to TEAMtalk, AZ Alkmaar manager Pascal Jansen has been identified as a possible alternative for Dyche, having attracted the eye since taking over the Dutch club in 2020, reaching the Europa Conference League semi-finals last season.
The 50-year-old is garnering interest from a number of teams, including Crystal Palace and Rangers, with his Alkmaar side presently tied for first place in the Eredivisie table with PSV Eindhoven, having won their first five games.
Everton are not considering Dyche’s position as manager at the moment, but like any well-run club, they have succession plans in place, and Jansen would be at the top of their wanted list if they parted ways with their present manager.
Pascal Jansen is from where?
The manager of AZ Alkmaar was born in London and spent portions of his childhood in Aylesbury, but he grew up mostly in the Netherlands, and he has since worked his way up to become manager of one of the country’s best clubs.
The Dutchman’s present position is his first as a professional team manager, and he has averaged 1.97 points per game since being appointed in December 2020, leading Alkmaar to a fourth-place finish last season.
In an interview, the English-born coach stated that he is “inspired by” Dutch star Johan Cruyff, implying that he prefers to play an attacking style of football, which may be a welcome change at Goodison Park.
Dyche was chastised by David Luiz for playing “anti-football” when at Burnley, and Everton have taken a more direct approach this season, playing 342 long balls, the third-most in the Premier League.
It would be unjust to fire Dyche so quickly after he brought the Toffees to safety last season, but they should keep Jansen in mind as a potential long-term replacement.
