Barnsley manager Neill Collins has stated that the club has no urgent plans to loan out Fabio Jalo.
Barnsley plan to keep the striker for the time being. He is well-liked at Oakwell and could get more regular first-team minutes in the coming weeks and months.
Jalo, 17, played 90 minutes in the Papa John’s Trophy against Manchester City Under-21s on Tuesday night. Conor McCarthy, Jon Russell, and Emmaisa Nzondo scored for his team, who won 3-1.
“We might see him before Bradford (the next trophy game in November), but I am looking forward to different opportunities that may arise for him,” Collins told the Barnsley Chronicle.
“For the time being, Fabio will remain here and see what opportunities arise.” Depending on injury and form, he’s not far from making the first team.”
Barnsley’s transfer strategy
There is no doubt that Jalo would benefit greatly from a loan spell in non-league as the season progresses, but the fact that Barnsley wish to keep him suggests that Collins regards him highly.
He already provides challenge and depth to the senior team. The youth began his career on the books of Benfica’s academy.
Before heading to England in 2019, the attacker was a regular for the European giants at various youth levels. Barnsley eventually bought him out.
Jalo signed his first professional contract with the Tykes in July last year, at the age of 16, after winning their Academy Player of the Year award. A month later, he made his Carabao Cup debut against Middlesbrough.
He has subsequently made five appearances in all competitions and scored two goals, both against Doncaster Rovers in the FA Cup last season.
Barnsley host Blackpool this weekend, looking to build on last weekend’s 2-1 away triumph at Northampton Town.
