JUST IN: Roy Hodgson drop major contract update after making Premier League history with Crystal Palace’s win at Manchester United

Roy Hodgson’s Crystal Palace team stunned Manchester United 1-0 at Old Trafford on Saturday. Joachim Andersen’s magnificent strike was enough for Palace to upset United 1-0 and condemn the Red Devils to yet another defeat.

Erik ten Hag suffers yet another crushing defeat, and the result is all the more stunning given that the Eagles were humiliated 3-0 by Manchester United just five days earlier in the Carabao Cup.

Hodgson became the first manager in history to be undefeated in five successive Premier League games at Old Trafford.

The South Londoners’ streak began in 2018 with a goalless draw and continued with 2-1 and 3-1 victories before the 76-year-old was replaced by Patrick Vieira in 2021.

He extended the streak with another goalless draw in February 2022 while in charge of Watford, which has since been followed by this most recent triumph.

‘The way the players went about the game today is quite commendable and has given me immense joy,’ the former England manager said on BBC Match of the Day.
‘They must be really disciplined and organized. It would be too much to expect you to come here and dominate.

‘Joachim Andersen is an excellent technician. It was only a 50/50 shot. He needed to get his feet right immediately and have the confidence to send his foot through the ball. I’m attempting to push him for goal of the week!

‘I must add that the real satisfaction comes from witnessing the players work so hard. The guys were quite tired near the finish.’

Palace are now eighth in the rankings, two points ahead of United, who have now lost five of their first nine games of the season.

‘I’m overjoyed for my players. Their efforts today were outstanding. ‘We scored a fantastic goal, and as a result, we maintained that lead throughout the game,’ Hodgson told Sky Sports.

‘We didn’t get a chance to show how fantastic we can be on Tuesday. Winning at Old Trafford is an accomplishment. This is one of football’s temples.

‘There was a lot of running and effort put into the game. One or two of our players had run themselves down. The back four will be the first to give credit to the front and midfield players.’
