BREAKING : 777 Partners founder Josh Wander issues ‘ominous’ three-word verdict on Everton loss v Luton Town – Sean Dyche job could be in trouble

Prospective According to Chris Beesley, Everton buyer Josh Wander offered a “ominous” verdict following the club’s 2-1 defeat to Luton Town.

The journalist alluded to a moment following the Goodison Park defeat when Wander, the co-founder of 777 Partners, gave his reaction to the loss after watching his first live Everton game.

After their recent run of form, the Toffees were dealt a reality check against newly promoted Luton Town on Saturday (30 September).

“Wander did make an effort to gain favor with Evertonians by sporting a royal blue tie as he took his seat in the stands next to director of football Kevin Thelwell,” Beesley wrote.

“When asked when leaving whether he had enjoyed his first Goodison Park experience, Wander replied: ‘Except the result,’ but even that had an ominous ring to it.”

Initial impressions
Wander would have been thrilled to see his prospective new club in person. Even with Everton’s shaky form, a home game against relegation rivals Luton Town would have provided the best opportunity of three points.

Unfortunately, this was not the case, as a poor defensive performance resulted in a surprise defeat. BBC Sport reporter Shamoon Hafez followed Wander off the field after full-time to get his reaction, and Wander was clearly dissatisfied with what he saw.

Wander’s penchant of purchasing up faltering sides obviously suggests that 777 is not delusory about the club’s current predicament. If his proposed takeover proposal is granted, he will be a busy man if he intends to restore the Toffees to their former glory.

The defeat against Luton has dampened any early season optimism. Hard-fought victories over Brentford in the Premier League and Aston Villa in the League Cup suggested that Everton was finally reaching its full potential, but first-half goals from Tom Lockyear and Carlton Morris brought the Toffees back down to earth.

Wander will be hoping for a better outcome on his next visit to Goodison Park.
