Chris Mannix believes the Celtics should “absolutely” look into adding Jrue Holiday in a trade with the Trail Blazers, but warns of the high asking price for the one-time NBA champion point guard.
Charles Lee isn’t the only former Milwaukee Bucks assistant working for the Boston Celtics this offseason.
The Maine Celtics, Boston’s G-League franchise, have recruited former Bucks assistant coach Blaine Mueller as their new head coach, the team announced Thursday morning.
Mueller, a 2014 graduate of the University of Wisconsin-Madison, had been with the Bucks since 2018, beginning as a Video & Player Development Assistant before rising to Head Video Coordinator and being promoted to assistant coach for the 2022-23 season under head coach Mike Budenholzer. Mueller collaborated with Lee, who joined the Celtics coaching staff in June.
“Blaine is a great addition to our staff and is ready to lead the Maine Celtics,” Celtics head coach Joe Mazzulla said Thursday in a statement. “He brings great enthusiasm and knowledge off the court, and on the court is deliberate, energetic, and will build strong relationships with the players.”
Mueller takes over for former Maine Celtics head coach Alex Barlow, who resigned after one season to become an assistant coach at Butler, his alma college (as well as Celtics president of basketball operations Brad Stevens’ alma mater).
Mueller will get the opportunity to work with some promising young players in Maine; guard JD Davison and wing Jay Scrubb are both on two-way contracts with the Celtics, and the team also recently signed G-League MVP runner-up Neemias Queta on a two-way contract.
Maine’s 2023-24 season begins on November 10, while the Celtics begin their season on October 25 against the New York Knicks.
