Milan manager Stefano Pioli has revealed that the Rossoneri players were dissatisfied in the dressing room following the club’s goalless draw in the Champions League against Borussia Dortmund.
Milan put up a fantastic effort in Germany, but they failed to get all three points, like they did against Newcastle United, and they now have two points from two games in the group stages. Paris Saint-Germain were defeated by the Magpies, putting the English team atop the table.
Pioli spoke to the press after the game on the team’s performance, and he sounded frustrated that the Rossoneri didn’t get all three points.
“The performance of the team that never gave up gives me satisfaction,” he added. “The fact that we were solid and attentive is good, and the performance of the two central defenders was excellent.” We wanted to win, therefore the boys were unhappy in the locker room.”
“Many things we do are positive, but we have not been concrete and cynical,” he continued, implying additional criticism for the lack of finishing in the side. I’d like to restart from the many great things we’re accomplishing.”
For the second consecutive Champions League game, a wasteful effort in the final third cost us a win, and we now have just two points in the group, despite the fact that we should probably have six.
On the surface, a draw away at Dortmund appears to be a nice result, but it will be remembered as yet another squandered opportunity after creating so many but failing to capitalize on them.
Milan now face back-to-back games against Paris Saint-Germain, who are dealing with their own issues following a huge defeat at Newcastle United, but we’ll have to be ruthless in both games if we’re to capture maximum points and learn from our mistakes in the first two outings.
