Jrue Holiday and his family were caught off guard by the Damian Lillard deal last Wednesday.
Lauren Holiday, Holiday’s wife, stated as much in a long statement posted to her Instagram feed Wednesday afternoon. The former USWNT star admitted she was “crushed” by her husband’s trade out of Milwaukee, which they were given “no heads up” about.
“I’m not saying this to say we have any rights.” I’m presenting this to demonstrate that we are human beings whose children form friendships with other children in our neighborhood. We are people who cherish family and friendship and make investments in the cities where we play. We don’t only take from the city in which we play. We donate to the city in which we play.
“Yes, this is more than just business.” We are people, not because we are outraged by it. We are all humans. We have friendships, dreams, and a connection to the place where we play.”
Jrue Holiday was eventually traded twice in five days. The two-time All-Star was soon rerouted to the Boston Celtics, where he has a fantastic chance to win another NBA championship this season.
“Boston, here we come!” Lauren Holiday said in a statement. “Can’t wait to make you home!”
The Holidays will return to Milwaukee on January 11 for the Celtics’ opening road game of the season versus the Bucks.
