BREAKING NEWS: Mansfield Town owner John Radford with an exciting update ahead of January transfer window and League promotion plans

After falling short on several occasions in previous years, Mansfield Town owner John Radford has set his sights on automatic promotion to League One this season.

The Stags were defeated in the 2022 League Two play-off final and missed out on automatic promotion on the final day of the 2019 season.

They have now gone 11 league games unbeaten this season, a club record.

“I’d like a top-three finish – all Mansfield fans would,” Radford told the press.

“Every club would respond in the same way, but we’ve had a good start.”

“It’s a sound foundation for the season and hopefully that continues.”

How Rich Is John Radford

They are seventh in League Two after four wins and seven draws in 11 games, one point behind the top three and four points off the top spot. And, following Arsenal’s Champions League defeat by Lens on Tuesday, Mansfield are the only team in England’s top four divisions to remain unbeaten in all competitions this season.

Nigel Clough, the manager of Mansfield Town, was given a new one-year contract in May, only days after his team narrowly lost out on the play-offs by a single goal.

The former Sheffield United and Derby County manager led the Stags to the Wembley play-off final a year ago, where they were defeated by Port Vale.

Clough mentioned challenging again when he signed his latest contract.

“Nigel knows we want to finish in the top three – we don’t want to go to Wembley,” Radford told BBC Radio Nottingham.

“The team is doing exactly what I asked of them at the start of the season.”

“We can’t complain about the football they’re playing right now.” It’s lively and entertaining to see.

“I know as chairman there will be blips along the way and things can go wrong, and that is why football is so exciting – you can’t predict anything.”
