DEAL AGREED: Brighton refusing to include release clause in attacker’s new contract

According to reports, Brighton and Hove Albion have refused to incorporate a minimum release provision in Kaoru Mitoma’s new contract.

Mitoma, 26, has been a standout for Roberto De Zerbi’s team since joining from Kawasaki Front FC two years ago. Arriving in the Premier League as an unknown, the 26-year-old has dispelled any doubts about his talent.

Despite being perhaps the Seagulls’ most influential attacker, there are growing doubts about the length of his contract. Brighton’s priority will be to renew the winger’s contract before it expires in 2025.

However, while the Japanese attacker’s weekly wage will be increased to £10,000, the club will not entertain a release clause.
According to a recent Football Insider story, the Seagulls’ hierarchy is resolved not to depart from their typical transfer procedures. Moises Caicedo and Alexis MacAllister did not have official release clauses in their contracts but were permitted to join Chelsea and Liverpool after their valuations were satisfied, and Mitoma is likely to be treated similarly.

Whether or whether a release clause is included in Mitoma’s imminent new contract, fans will not want to see him depart AMEX Stadium anytime soon.

Mitoma, who has represented Japan on 18 times, has personally contributed to 25 goals in 51 games in all competitions during his first two years on England’s south coast.
