BREAKING NEWS: Portsmouth boss John Mousinho verdict on the Pompey signing Free agent

With decision time approaching, Portsmouth manager John Mousinho has refused to rule out a move for free agent Josh Martin.

Portsmouth totally revamped their team during the summer transfer window. Manager John Mousinho oversaw the transformation with the assistance of the recruitment team and the club management, and there aren’t many obvious flaws in the ranks.
Pompey, on the other hand, are still free to sign free agents if they so like. Former Norwich City midfielder Josh Martin is one player without a club who has been training with the League One leaders, though Mousinho has stated that a deal seemed unlikely given his happiness with the group.

However, Mousinho has provided an update on Martin’s situation, and it appears like the door is still open.

In an interview with The News, he indicated that the 22-year-old is still training with Portsmouth and that a decision is imminent. He stated:

“On Tuesday, Josh trained with us again. We wanted to get the Gillingham game out of the way because we have a natural break coming up and will see where things stand.

“We have another training session this morning that he will attend, and then we’ll take it from there.”

“As it stands at the moment, there doesn’t seem to be a desperate need to add to the squad, although that’s not to say we’re looking at Josh and completely dismissing him.”

Mousinho later stated that Martin has been excellent during his time with the club and that he believes he will find success wherever he goes.

Portsmouth’s diverse possibilities

Who is MK Dons' latest signing Josh Martin?
Portsmouth has had injuries throughout the team, but they have handled them admirably. Mousinho’s squad contains dynamic strikers and forward-thinking midfielders who have been able to fill in, and with injuries lessening, more numbers are now available.

Gavin Whyte and Kusini Yengi have both been on the sidelines but have returned to action. Other wing options include Abu Kamara and the currently injured Anthony Scully, while left-back Jack Sparkes can also provide backup.

The arrival of Martin would provide some depth when injuries occur, but if Portsmouth has a fully fit team, they may be a little overstocked there.

Martin is a promising prospect who has recently been based in the area, but only time will tell if Pompey seize the opportunity to sign him. If not, he won’t be long in finding a new team.
