Former AC Milan midfielder and current Newcastle player Sandro Tonali has been served with legal documents for his role in the betting scandal, which currently involves three players.
According to the FIGC, the two Italy internationals have been presented with official papers stating that they are being investigated for their role in a betting scam.
This incident began with Juventus player Nicolo Fagioli being investigated for perhaps betting on football matches through illegal betting networks.
Tonali and Aston Villa’s Nicolo Zaniolo were also named as participants. Both of the latter are now formally under investigation.
Tonali and Zaniolo were released from Coverciano, where they were training for the upcoming Euro 2024 qualifiers. The FIGC believes they will be unable to face Malta and England.
In the long term, all three players face significant sanctions from the sport.
