Carlo Pellegatti, a journalist, has described the problems that AC Milan may face as a result of former midfielder Sandro Tonali’s betting incident.
Pellegatti spoke to Radio Rossonera on the financial implications for the Rossoneri if Tonali is found guilty of the betting offenses that he is accused of.
Tonali, along with Nicolo Zaniolo, Nicolo Fagioli, and Nicola Zalewski, has been charged with illicit betting sites and betting on football matches.
Tonali’s alleged offenses occurred when he was playing for Milan, not during his tenure at Newcastle, which began when he left Milan in the summer of 2023.
As Pellegatti argues, if Tonali is punished, Milan may miss out on future performance-based bonuses from Newcastle, but the club is free of further concerns.
“So, Milan only has one problem, an economic risk: Tonali was sold for a fee and then bonuses.” You have to look at the bonuses in that arrangement to determine if they are tied to Newcastle’s placements. There’s a chance Milan won’t make money on appearances or goals. A loss of income is the only thing that could financially affect them. “I don’t see anything else that connects Milan to the Tonali case,” he said.
The inquiries against the four players and their suspected betting are still ongoing.
