HUGE INCOMING: Newcastle ready to strike deal for top talented Midfielder this January after Sandro Tonali blow – with same agent as Pope

Newcastle United have been linked with a January move for Manchester City’s Kalvin Phillips, and a new report provides an update on the club’s interest.

When was the last time Kalvin Phillips played?
Phillips last played at Wembley on Tuesday evening in England’s 3-1 triumph over Italy in their Euro 2024 Qualifier, but following the game, the defensive midfielder freely revealed that he would soon have to make a decision on his immediate future at Manchester City.

“I know that I need to be playing games and competing every weekend,” he told the BBC. Over the following few months, I’ll have to make a decision on my future in the city. Hopefully, my opportunity will come, but if it does not, I will have to make other choices.”

The Sky Blues star has been restricted in terms of minutes this season, having made zero starts and three substitute appearances in the Premier League (WhoScored – Phillips statistics), so it’s logical that he could want to seek elsewhere next year.

According to the latest update, Magpies manager Eddie Howe has made acquiring a new defensive midfielder his main goal in the forthcoming transfer window, and it looks that the 27-year-old has been identified as a potential top target.

Update on Kalvin Phillips’ transfer
According to The Northern Echo, who has provided a transfer update on Kalvin Phillips, Newcastle are set to seal a deal for the Etihad Stadium star:

“Newcastle United are prepared to make a January move for Kalvin Phillips if the England international decides to leave Manchester City before the end of the season.”

“The Magpies looked into signing Declan Rice in the summer, but Arsenal’s willingness to pay more than £100 million for the West Ham star put an end to their interest, but Phillips has always been regarded as an appealing alternative.”

“Newcastle’s recruitment team will be ready to strike in the hope of setting up either a permanent transfer or an initial loan deal, with a view to a possible permanent move next summer.”

How much does Kalvin Phillips make per week?
Phillips earns £150,000 a week (Man City salaries) with Pep Guardiola’s side, which isn’t much considering how far down the pecking order he is, but that could all change if he decides to sign with Newcastle.

When he does play, the Leeds-born prospect has a 90% pass success percentage, showcasing his calmness and control in possession, with Sven Botman being the only regular feature under Howe to average higher with 92.2% (WhoScored – Newcastle statistics).

Furthermore, Phillips, who has been dubbed a “Rolls Royce” by journalist Josh Bunting for his classy performances, shares the same agent, CAA Stellar (Transfermarkt – Phillips profile), as Nick Pope, Javier Manquillo, and Elliot Anderson (Newcastle agents), so his representative’s existing connection to the club could give them a small advantage in January.
