As part of a four-club exchange involving out-of-contract player Paddy Dow, the Carlton Football Club has earned an additional future selection and swapped two more picks in next year’s national draft.
In exchange for Dow and the Club’s future third and fourth-round picks, the Blues receive Essendon’s future third-round pick, Fremantle’s future fourth-round pick (acquired from St Kilda), and the Western Bulldogs’ future fourth-round pick.
Dow appeared in 73 games for the Navy Blue across six seasons, including 10 this season, five of which were as a substitute.
Dow leaves IKON Park with the Club’s best wishes, according to Carlton Head of List Management Nick Austin, with the arrangement allowing the Club to add to its hand in 2024.
“We could not fault Paddy’s professionalism throughout this year, his ability to stay ready for his opportunity at senior level was first class,” Austin went on to say.
“We had very open communication with Paddy and his management throughout the year, and while we would have liked to keep him, he wants to play senior football every week, which we respect.”
“With Paddy out of contract, we’re excited to be able to arrange a trade that will allow us to add to our future draft hand for next year.” We’ve been explicit about our intention to replenish our depth through trade or draft throughout the next phase of our list building, and this transaction contributes to that strategy.”
