Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur have a history of feuding, and their relationship could deteriorate further as they compete for one of Europe’s hottest attackers.

Though both clubs are flying high at the top of the Premier League this season, Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur both know they need a goalscoring striker like Erling Haaland if they are to dethrone Manchester City.

And it appears that the two rivals have found their ideal man – except that only one will be able to complete a transfer in January, despite the fact that both teams are interested in securing his services.

Tottenham Hotspur are leading the race to recruit Feyenoord striker Santiago Gimenez, who has 13 goals in nine Eredivisie games this season and 15 in 11 in all competitions, according to Fabrizio Romano.

Spurs, who have been tracking the Mexico international’s improvement for some months, could be interested in launching a mid-season raid for the 22-year-old with a rumored price tag of just £39m. Tottenham’s alleged interest in Gimenez began when they were looking to hire Arne Slot as manager, and they have kept an eye on him ever since.

There is only one issue: Arsenal.

Arsenal are also reportedly interested in Gimenez, while 90min reports that Feyenoord will only accept an offer of £87 million, breaking the Eredivisie record of £82 million paid to Ajax for Antony last summer.

With only three league goals between them this season, Mikel Arteta appears to believe Gabriel Jesus and Eddie Nketiah don’t score enough for Arsenal to sustain a title fight. However, the introduction of Gimenez would alter matters, allowing for additional possibilities in many games.

Gimenez, who joined Feyenoord from Cruz Azul in July 2022, scored 23 goals in 45 games for the club. However, he has been even more prolific this season, scoring 15 times in just 11 games.
