AHEAD OF TIME? Felix Nmecha’s goal in the 45th minute gave the Magpies a narrow 1-0 Champions League loss against Dortmund on Wednesday night. Howe is more concerned about Isak and Murphy’s injuries than the loss because they may be out for an extended period of time.
Murphy only played for five minutes after replacing Joelinton in the second half, while Isak was seen hobbling off the field after fifteen minutes.
AFTER THE GAME: “That was a blow for us (Isak coming off), and Jacob coming off as well which looks like a serious injury,” he told reporters.
“The biggest letdown of the evening is that we have a small squad already, but we still have a lot of games left. “Jacob Murphy appears to have a more serious shoulder dislocation, which is not good news, and (Isak) appears to be a recurrence of the groin injury,” he continued.
THE BIGGER PICTURE: Murphy’s jersey was being used as a makeshift sling, and he needed assistance getting off the field. Isak, who scored seven goals in 11 appearances across all competitions to start the season, was seen shaking his head in disappointment as he came off. It’s possible that he sensed he might have to miss a significant amount of time.
