With the signing of free agent Bismack Biyombo by the Memphis Grizzlies, the Boston Celtics have lost their ideal free agent target. There is, however, a perfect backup plan for every perfect plan.

Favors, like Biyombo, is a strong player who can fight at the rim for second chances and limit them for the opponent. Favors could provide the Boston Celtics with valuable minutes off the bench, as Kristaps Porzingis and Al Horford will need someone to contribute 10-15 minutes off the bench while getting the occasional spot start in the near future.

If the Boston Celtics do not sign a backup big man, they will be vulnerable.
As the season progresses, the Boston Celtics will need to shore up their frontcourt in any way they can. Boston’s goal is to win the NBA Championship, and Favors provides a low-risk option who could provide valuable, if understated, moments off the bench on the way to a possible Banner 18.

While he is not a game-winning signing, he does the little things to keep his teams in the hunt, as evidenced by the Utah Jazz’s constant presence in the postseason during the former No. 3 overall pick’s time in Salt Lake City.

“I still love the game,” Favors told Michael Scotto of HoopsHype. “I adore it in every way. I enjoy the entire process of working out and getting better, including the weight room, conditioning, and on-court work. I still have a strong attachment to the game. Obviously, things change, and I must adapt. Part of my motivation for joining the G League is to continue my career, to improve, to return to the league, and to mentor the young guys.”
