The Western Bulldogs have released Hayden Crozier and Roarke Smith, joining 2016 premiership player Toby McLean, while the club has committed to re-signing Taylor Duryea and Lachie McNeil next month.
Inside Trading reported a fortnight ago that Crozier and Smith were in limbo as the club finalized its 2024 roster, which included the departure of McLean. The club confirmed on Tuesday morning that neither player would be offered new contracts for the coming season.
Crozier, 29, joined the Bulldogs from Fremantle in 2017 and has appeared in 73 games at Whitten Oval, bringing his career total to 142. He only appeared in four games this season.
Smith, 27, played in just 47 games for the club in nine years and did not play a senior game this season due to a foot injury.
Duryea and McNeil have also been delisted, but the club will re-draft them next month.
McLean, Mitch Hannan, Tim O’Brien, Robbie McComb, and Cody Raak had already been delisted by the club, as had Josh Bruce (retired) and Jordon Sweet (traded to Port Adelaide).
During the Continental Tyres AFL Trade Period, James Harmes and Nick Coffield joined the club.
“Both Hayden and Roarke have made significant contributions to our playing group, both on and off the field,” said Bulldogs list manager Sam Power.
“The pair always had a team-first attitude and would play any role required for the team, and we appreciate their commitment to the Western Bulldogs.”
“We wish Hayden and Roarke and their families the best of luck in the future.” They are always welcome to return to VU Whitten Oval.”
