DONE DEAL: Philadelphia Eagles trade Defensive lineman to Atlanta Falcons

Following the loss of Grady Jarrett for the season, the Falcons have moved quickly to add depth along the defensive interior. The Eagles confirmed on Monday that Kentavius Street had been traded from Philadelphia to Atlanta.
The Eagles will give the Falcons Street and a seventh-round pick in 2025 in exchange for a sixth-round pick in 2024. This is consistent with the terms of numerous recent transactions made throughout the league. It will increase Philadelphia’s cap space slightly while providing Atlanta with another defensive front-line option with Jarrett out for the season due to a torn ACL.

Street spent his first three seasons with the 49ers as a rotational player. He then joined the Saints in 2022, where he continued to impress as a pass rusher. With 3.5 sacks (up from 3.0 the previous year), the 27-year-old set a new career best. After a brief stay in Philadelphia, Street will rejoin Falcons defensive coordinator Ryan Nielson, with whom he previously worked in New Orleans.

During the offseason, Atlanta’s defensive retooling attempts saw the arrivals of David Onyemata and Kaelin Elliss, and those ex-Saints will give Street with familiar faces upon his arrival in Atlanta. The latter played only 87 defensive snaps for the Eagles this season, demonstrating the depth of the NFC champs’ defensive front. Street will undoubtedly have a heavier task in Atlanta.

The NC State alum has twice surpassed the 40% snap level in his career, and Jarrett’s absence will allow Street to take on a rotational role with the Falcons. He was signed to a one-year contract for the veteran’s minimum and will be a low-cost addition for the 4-4 Falcons as they attempt to keep their lead in the NFC South. A strong pass defense has contributed to their success in 2023, but the team’s run defense has been average thus far. Street will have the opportunity to improve his status throughout the stretch run before another trip to free agency.
