According to reports, AC Milan is one of several Italian clubs interested in signing Harry Maguire from Manchester United.
Erik ten Hag’s Red Devils are open to offers for Maguire, who has long been considered surplus to requirements.
The United captaincy was stripped from him over the summer, and he has only started once in the Premier League this season, and that was due to the club’s injury crisis, with Lisandro Martinez and Raphael Varane both out.
Maguire was on the verge of leaving Old Trafford in the summer, but a move to West Ham fell through, leaving the 30-year-old determined to fight for his place at the club.
With his game time not improving, England’s star recently stated, ‘I am not going to sit here all my life and play once a month,’ implying he is open to leaving in January.
This news has renewed the Irons’ interest in Maguire but it turns out they are not the only ones keen on the player, with talkSPORT reporting that ‘AC Milan are among a host of Serie A clubs monitoring the situation’.
The move to Italy is said to appeal to Maguire because he could emulate former Manchester United and England defender Chris Smalling, who has enjoyed a revival in form since joining Roma in 2019.
Former Chelsea starlets Tammy Abraham and Fikayo Tomori have found success in Serie A, with former Chelsea starlets Tammy Abraham and Fikayo Tomori enjoying success at Roma and AC Milan, respectively.
Of course, Maguire’s United career could still be revived, as the club’s defense has looked incredibly shaky in his absence, and he could yet prove to be the solution to their problems.
The Red Devils are currently 10th in the table, eight points behind leaders Tottenham, with a trip to Sheffield United coming up this Saturday night.
Meanwhile, Maguire is expected to start England’s match against Italy on Tuesday night, with a win ensuring the Three Lions’ qualification for Euro 2024.
