At the trade deadline, the Cleveland Browns had goals but fell short of most of them.
According to Dianna Russini of The Athletic, Cleveland was interested in acquiring a wide receiver and an offensive tackle. The team was also looking for a running back, according to FOX Sports’ Jay Glazer. The Browns offered the Commanders a sixth-round pick in exchange for former starting quarterback Jacoby Brissett, but Washington declined. Finally, the Browns traded wide receiver Donovan Peoples-Jones to the Detroit Lions in exchange for a fifth-round pick in 2025.
Cleveland’s only option for meeting its needs now lies in a rather bare free agent market. On Tuesday, October 31, the Browns welcomed running back Kenyan Drake to the practice squad, addressing one worry – albeit in a pretty unimpressive manner.
The team should also seriously explore investing part of its $35.5 million in available salary cap space to bring in free-agent QB Carson Wentz and supplement its championship-level defense with a passing attack capable of contributing to winning.

During that stretch, head coach Ron Rivera publicly stated that the quarterback position was the difference between Washington’s performance and that of the rest of the NFC East Division — the Philadelphia Eagles, Dallas Cowboys, and New York Giants all made the playoffs in 2022.
Wentz became a free agent this summer after signing a four-year, $128 million agreement with the Eagles in 2019 — just two years after finishing third in MVP voting during Philadelphia’s Super Bowl-winning season in 2017. He is still available in free agency and has actual worth to a team with a winning offense.
Wentz has a career record of 46-45-1 in the NFL, with a touchdown-to-interception ratio of 151-t0-66.
