According to a report, AC Milan have made Lille’s Jonathan David their number one target for the centre-forward position, but a January move now appears unlikely.
According to La Gazzetta dello Sport (seen below), Milan’s focus ahead of January has shifted to finding a new center-back given the club’s dire need for reinforcement in that position, but the task of signing a future No.9 remains unfinished.
Divock Origi was a failed experiment, Rafa Leao can only play on the left, Noah Okafor is better on the outside or in a two-man attack, and Luka Jovic has made no contributions thus far. Olivier Giroud, in particular, cannot continue to carry the attack.
Giorgio Furlani and Geoffrey Moncada look around, aware that there is a problem.
Milan attempted to sign David at the end of August and will continue to monitor the situation in January, despite the fact that his contract expires in June 2025. Lille will demand at least €40 million, but will be unable to obtain the €60 million they sought last summer.
Is the new price attainable in January? No, there is currently no such budget planned for the winter, and unless plans change, it is more of a pursuit for June, which will be 12 months after David’s contract expires.
Milan are interested in the Canada international because he is quick, shoots with both feet, knows how to play on the counter-attack, and also assists. Of course, he needs to get back to scoring after scoring 39 goals.
