GOOD TRAD: Lions Sign Linebacker to Active Roster, Waive Running Back

During their bye week, the Detroit Lions revealed a couple of personnel adjustments, which are expected to bode well for the offense.

Linebacker Trevor Nowaske was signed to the active 53-man roster on Thursday.

Running back Devine Ozigbo was waived in a matching move.

Ozigbo played two offensive snaps and seven special teams snaps against the Raiders.

The move to waive the 27-year-old could indicate that David Montgomery is on his way back from a rib cartilage ailment.

Lions sign LB Trevor Nowaske from the practice squad

After a successful undergraduate career at Saginaw Valley State, Nowaske spent his rookie season on the practice squad.

In three preseason appearances, the talented linebacker collected seven tackles and a pass defense.
“I don’t know if I can put it into words,” Nowaske said following his preseason debut against the New York Giants at Ford Field. “What an incredible experience. Being from Canton and having been a Lions fan my entire life, and now being on the team, it’s still kind of sinking in.”

Because he went undrafted, he had a slim chance of making the team out of training camp.

“I’ve still got a lot of work to do,” Nowaske admitted. “I know it’s going to be a long road from here, being undrafted.” I’m glad I was able to go out there and help, but there’s still a lot more that can be done.”

Lions sign RB Devine Ozigbo, waive WR Avery Davis

Now that he’s had his first taste of regular-season action, the young rookie must compete with the talented linebackers already on the roster, many of whom also contribute on special teams.

Malcolm Rodriguez has also been dealing with an ankle issue, which limited his involvement in practice last week.
