Ja’Marr Chase of the Cincinnati Bengals appears to be back to his usual self after struggling in his first two games of the season.
He ranks eighth in the NFL in receiving yards with 656, and he’s primed for this weekend’s big game against the Buffalo Bills.
If and when Chase scores a touchdown on Sunday, he plans to grab a television camera like Chad “Ochocinco” Johnson if Johnson agrees to pay any punishment Chase may face as a result.
Johnson offered to do precisely that.
Johnson is widely regarded as the Bengals’ finest wide receiver of all time, having earned six Pro Bowl appearances and two All-Pro First Team honors in the 2000s.
However, Chase, who is in his third pro season, has the potential to overtake Johnson in franchise history.
He gained 1,455 yards and 13 touchdowns as a rookie, winning him the Offensive Rookie of the Year award, and despite playing in only 12 games last year, he had 1,046 yards and nine touchdowns.
In a 31-17 victory over the San Francisco 49ers on Sunday, he caught 10 passes for 100 yards and one touchdown.
The Bengals are on a three-game winning streak after starting the season 1-3, and this weekend’s game against Buffalo will be a rematch of last winter’s Divisional round playoff game, which they won 27-10.
It will be an opportunity for both teams to demonstrate that they have re-emerged as real Super Bowl contenders following a shaky start to the season.
