On Friday afternoon, an insight into the duties that would be placed on Zlatan Ibrahimovic’s shoulders upon his return to AC Milan was revealed.
The name of iconic frontman Ibrahimovic has, of course, been front and center in the headlines on the red half of the Milan split this week. This comes after media reports suggested that the Swede was on the verge of returning to Milanello.
Ibrahimovic announced the end of his playing career in the colors of his beloved Diavolo earlier this year.Keen to contribute beyond the field, it is understood that talks between the 42-year-old and Milan on a new role behind the scenes are now begun.
And, on Friday, there was some glimpse into what this post would involve.
According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, Ibrahimovic is poised to serve as a liaison between Stefano Pioli’s squad and the club’s board, a function most recently held by Paolo Maldini.
However, unlike Maldini, the ex-striker is not likely to have any influence in transfer business.
Ibrahimovic, on the other hand, is determined to be seen as more than a symbolic figure, eager to make a meaningful difference at San Siro. On occasion, he will be charged with media obligations.
