During the summer, Boston Celtics fan favorite — and team heart and soul — Marcus Smart was moved to the Memphis Grizzlies in order to acquire Kristaps Porzingis. Now, the deal appears to be a foregone conclusion; as painful as it was for most Cs supporters at the time. Trading Smart was one of those occasions when you had to make a difficult decision since it was simply what was best for you.
Smart was adored for his zeal, and his work ethic helped him become the heart and soul of the Celtics, the team that chose him and saw him blossom into a Defensive Player of the Year.
It’s not a stretch to think the Cs would be eager to bring Smart back when the time is perfect.

We can all bet that as time passes and the Grizzlies continue on their current path, Smart will be wanting to come home as well. One leaves the nest and explores various locations at times in life, but we all know that home is where our hearts always remain.
Marcus Smart will likely retire with the Boston Celtics.
The ideal scenario would be for this great Celtic to return and conclude his career with the team he enjoyed competing for every night.
Smart is a fierce competitor who will give his all wherever he goes, but Boston will always be the town where he did it first.
You can bet that Smart will be connected to the Boston Celtics in free agency, if not at the trade deadline, in 2026. If the Grizzlies deal Smart at any point, the process for acquiring No. 36 might be drastically shortened.
It’s now a waiting game, and the present club may might add championship hardware to the trophy case before then.
It would only be fitting if Smart won a championship with the Celtics one day.
