Josh Jackson and Steve Turner, two Club icons, have been named the 2024 Jersey Flegg and SG Ball Cup Coaches. This appointment is expected to introduce the Club’s Academy to the genuine Bulldogs spirit and values.
The Jersey Flegg squad’s run for the Premiership last season was spearheaded by Josh Jackson, and Steve Turner collaborated closely with NRL players Cameron Ciraldo and others.
Steve Turner, also known as “The Zap,” made his Panthers debut against the Storm in round 23 of the 2002 season. He went on to play in 161 games (Panthers 2, Storm 105, Bulldogs 54). He joined the Bulldogs in 2010 to take the place of retiring veteran Hazem El Masri, bringing with him Premiership and State of Origin experience.
He was forced to retire from competition in 2013 due to an injury, but like Josh Jackson, he never really left the Club, moving from the field to administration.
Josh Jackson ran out for the Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs on 241 occasions during his 11 seasons as a first-team rugby league player, which ran from 2012 to 2022. Additionally, he signed on with the Bulldogs in 2010, playing 50 games over two seasons for the Club’s NYC squad (the competition has since been replaced by the Jersey Flegg Cup) before moving up to the NSW Cup and the NRL in 2012.
After James Graham left, he swiftly established himself as a resolute, gruff, and diligent second rower. Because of his approach to practice and game day, he was chosen to be captain in 2018.
Josh announced his retirement from professional rugby league during the 2023 preseason, but he also agreed to continue working for the Club as an official strength and conditioning coach who aimed to support future players through the Bulldogs Academy.
