JUST IN: Port star is said to be on the verge of signing a lucrative contract extension.

The winds of change are said to be blowing over Alberton, with Connor Rozee set to become the highest-paid Power player in league history.

The 23-year-old has also been earmarked for an internal promotion.

Rozee has developed into one of the league’s most dangerous mid-forward hybrids since joining the Power with the fifth pick in the 2018 AFL Draft, averaging 19.16 disposals and just shy of a goal per game in 106 senior appearances

While Rozee is under contract until the end of the 2024 season, Warren Tredrea, Port Adelaide’s only AFL premiership-winning captain, has stated that the Power are prepared to significantly loosen the purse strings to keep the North Adelaide product on the books.

“Connor Rozee is on the verge of signing the richest deal in Port Adelaide’s history,” Tredrea said on Monday’s FIVEaa Sports Show.

While pens are reportedly poised at Alberton, no specifics about Rozee’s alleged extension have been made public.

Though he is still learning his trade in the middle of the field, Port see Rozee as the club’s future face, with Tredrea claiming the dual All-Australian is the clubhouse leader for the Power’s vacant captaincy position.

“I’m also hearing that captaincy wise, he’s leading the running,” the former forward added.

If Rozee is approved by his leaders and peers, he will become the seventh name to lead Port Adelaide during the AFL era, with the position opening after Tom Jonas’ retirement at the end of the 2023 season.

If Rozee is to take the figurative armband in the future, he will have plenty of help, with former skippers Travis Boak and Ollie Wines still on Ken Hinkley’s roster.
