Alex Anthopoulos will undoubtedly try to address the Braves’ pitching staff’s shortcomings during the offseason. However, a few internal arms who are making a full recovery from Tommy John surgery could also be a huge asset.
Tyler Matzek, the 2021 postseason hero, is the first. After undergoing Tommy John surgery in October 2022, he is expected to be fully recovered by Spring Training, according to reports. Huascar Ynoa, a right-handed flamethrower, is the other. He underwent surgery one month ahead of Matzek and is anticipated to be prepared for Spring Training.
During the offseason, Alex Anthopoulos will surely attempt to address the shortcomings of the Braves pitching staff. A few internal arms, on the other hand, who are fully recovered from Tommy John surgery might also be a great asset.
The first is Tyler Matzek, the 2021 postseason hero. He underwent Tommy John surgery in October 2022, and reports state that he should be fully recovered by Spring Training. The other is a right-handed flamethrower named Huascar Ynoa. One month before Matzek, he had surgery, and it is expected that he will be ready for Spring Training.
Huascar Ynoa isn’t a lock at this point, but he has a lot of potential, and he’ll only be 26 years old next season. Next spring, Braves fans should keep a close eye on him because of his intriguing fastball/slider combination as a bullpen option. High-velocity two-pitch pitchers are typically far more effective in brief relief appearances, and the Braves relief core could sure use another strong arm.
