OFFICIAL:Background, role, responsibilities and everything we know about Zlatan Ibrahimovic new appointment .

Zlatan Ibrahimovic is prepared to rejoin AC Milan for a third stint in the team, but instead of wearing boots, he will be carrying a briefcase.

According to numerous reports, Milan has reached a consensus regarding the Swede’s return, which could be made official as early as next week. Ibrahimovic will serve as president Gerry Cardinale’s “super consultant,” a position that combines the responsibilities of a technical general director with those of a businessperson associated with RedBird Capital.

It has been confirmed to us that Ibrahimovic will not have a designated position within the organizational chart. In addition to offering support to the management group headed by Geoffrey Moncada and Antonio D’Ottavio, the 42-year-old will also have a voice in team management, transfers, and marketing and communication plans.

Ibrahimovic made the decision to hang up his boots at the end of the previous season. He celebrated his first birthday without playing football last October. Following titles with Inter, Barcelona, and Paris Saint-Germain, he won his fourth league championship in an illustrious career with Milan after winning the Scudetto in the 2021–2022 season.

After retiring from football, the Swede scored 571 goals in 1000 games for his club and his nation, making him one of the all-time great strikers. But now, he wishes to add to his legend by working with others to write a new chapter.

The way Cardinale persuaded him
Cardinale, the top investor in RedBird Capital, the American fund that acquired the Rossoneri club in 2022, firmly supported Ibrahimovic’s return to Milan. Ibrahimovic’s charm, character, and skill have always been valued by Cardinale, who sees them as assets to the Rossoneri project.

As a matter of fact, the president will be able to rely on the experience and football vision of the Swede, making him more than just a figurehead. Naturally, Ibrahimovic has an agreement with D’Ottavio and Moncada to play a major and active role in Milan’s transfer market, both in and out.

Identifying and developing young talent from the first team as well as the youth sector will be another responsibility he will have, in keeping with his motto, “Give space to young people, but only if they deserve it.”

The link between Casa Milan and Milanello

In addition, the team and coach Stefano Pioli, with whom Ibrahimovic has previously collaborated well in the past, will look to him as a reference. The former forward for Manchester United and PSG will act as a sort of go-between for the players and the management, passing along his winning attitude, tenacity, and leadership to them.

Zlatan will also have a privileged conversation with Italian and foreign media, which will help to improve Milan’s standing and image globally. It is a figure akin to Maldini, albeit with a stronger connection to RedBird and no formal role such as technical director.
Thus, Ibrahimovic is prepared to take on his next task at Milan and try to lead the Rossoneri team back to the pinnacle of European football. The 33-time trophy winner from Sweden has already shown his excitement with a “enigmatic” tweet in which he mimics the sound of a clock’s hands as he gets ready to announce his return to Milan.

Everyone involved in the club is excited about Ibra’s return, from Pioli to CEO Giorgio Furlani, who made the following statement on Tuesday prior to PSG’s match: “I would be happy to be able to work with Ibrahimovic again, he is a number one.”

The club’s president, Paolo Scaroni, expressed his delight at Zlatan’s impending return to Milan by saying, “The door is open for him.” Most significantly, Pioli is also in favor because, having spent 2.5 years together, he is well aware of the extent to which the Swede can be trusted with his motivations.

Close but not imminent agreement

As reported by ANSA, Ibrahimovic and Cardinale are close to reaching an agreement regarding the Swede’s participation in an as-yet-undisclosed role. But the announcement is not going to happen soon.

Because of what? As usual, it will take some time to file the final details. While at San Siro for Tuesday night’s Champions League match against PSG, Cardinale met with Ibrahimovic to discuss the specifics of the former striker’s participation.

These were obviously very positive discussions, and the end should result in an announcement once all the specifics have been finalized and the required formalities have been completed.
