The Boston Celtics are looking for a good 3-and-D wing off the bench to complement their potential all-time great starting five. Boston has an outstanding starting five, but they still have weaknesses on the bench that must be addressed.
The Brooklyn Nets haven’t had the best start to the 2023-24 season, but it’s far from certain that they’ll be sellers at the trade deadline. Dorian Finney-Smith must be pursued by the Celtics if Brooklyn is to become a seller.

DFS has established himself as an excellent defensive player and three-point shooter in recent years. The native of Portsmouth, Virginia, can enter the Celtics locker room and be a positive influence on, as well as an elite option to rest, Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown. Given his willingness to play center, he could also serve as a backup 5 for Kristaps Porzingis if his injury issues resurface.

With Boston in desperate need of a player who can defend top players while also making big shots, reaching out to Finney-Smith is a must, as the Celtics will be unstoppable once they fill their bench needs.
To be clear, Al Horford once performed admirably in that role, but at 37, it’s unfair to put too much of a regular-season burden on the five-time All-Star.
With the goal of winning Banner 18 at the end of the season, Finney-Smith appears to be the ideal fit for the Boston Celtics.
