BOSTON UPDATES: Boston Celtics new man and All-NBAer forming a strong relationship with new teammate Kristaps Porzingis off-court

During Kristaps Porzingis’ first season with the Boston Celtics, Jaylen Brown has developed a strong friendship with the big man. Their on-court chemistry has propelled Boston to an 8-2 record in the first three weeks of the 2023-24 season.

Brown recently spoke to the media in Boston about his budding bromance with Porzingis. The two-time All-Star shared some amusing insights into what makes Porzingis so endearing.

“Because we live in the same building, I’ve had the opportunity to ride back from the airport with him. KP is a hoot. He’s a lot funnier than you think. He’s a nice guy… He winks at you every time he sees you. “Why are you winking at me, man?”

This season, Brown and Porzingis have fully embraced the Celtics’ team-first mentality. Both players have given up some offensive volume while playing for one of the most talented NBA teams in recent memory. Brown has attempted approximately two fewer shots per game than last season, while Porzingis has attempted approximately four fewer shots per game.

Porzingis is on pace to have his most efficient season yet, shooting a career-high 56.5% from the field and converting at an incredible 68.2% from inside the arc. The Latvian has a 40.8% 3-point percentage on 4.9 attempts per game.

Brown’s scoring average has dropped slightly as he adjusts to the abundance of firepower surrounding him and superstar Jayson Tatum. Brown, on the other hand, has made 36.4% of his threes while shooting 45.9% from the field. JB is averaging 22.9 points per game, but given his small sample size this early in the season, that number could easily rise.

Brown also talked about his on-court connection with Porzingis and how the duo can cause havoc for opposing teams.

“It’s been fantastic. On the court, we’ve been able to develop some pretty good actions. Going forward, they (opposing teams) must choose between stopping me and stopping him. Off the court, it’s been a pleasure as well.”

The Boston Celtics will try to win their ninth game of the season when they visit the Philadelphia 76ers for the second time in a week. Brown tied his season low with 11 points in Boston’s recent 106-103 loss to Philadelphia, while Porzingis poured in 29 points on 10-of-19 shooting.
