BREAKING NEWS: Sean McVay sheds light on Rams’ decision-making process before Carson Wentz signing

Sean McVay, head coach of the Los Angeles Rams, has shed some light on the team’s recent acquisition of quarterback Carson Wentz.

According to The Athletic’s Jourdan Rodrigue, Sean McVay stated that the Rams decided to sign Carson Wentz due to starter Matthew Stafford’s recent injury.
“The situations and some of the things that we went through ultimately led us to to feel like, ‘All right, let’s make that decision,'” McVay said.

“Let’s hope for a (scenario) in which Matthew is healthy the rest of the way.” But if he wasn’t available for whatever reason, this was the direction we wanted to go (and) have Carson be able to take over,” McVay added.

The Rams’ injury woes continue to plague them.
In the Rams’ Week 8 loss to the Dallas Cowboys, Matthew Stafford suffered an ulnar collateral ligament (UCL) injury to his right thumb.

The team feared the worst: Stafford’s injury could be more serious than a sprained thumb. Matthew Stafford was unable to properly grip a football due to swelling.

With Stafford out, Brett Rypien took over as the Rams’ starting quarterback in Week 9. In the second half of their 20-3 loss to the Green Bay Packers, Los Angeles had only four first downs. Rypien, who recently signed with the Seattle Seahawks, was released by the Rams.

Wentz is in his eighth season in the NFL. From 2016 to 2020, he spent his first five seasons with the Philadelphia Eagles. Wentz spent one season with the Indianapolis Colts and one with the Washington Commanders. In 93 regular-season games, he has thrown for 22,169 yards, 151 touchdowns, and 66 interceptions.

Before signing with the Rams last week, the New York Jets reportedly turned down Wentz.

Due to various injuries, the Rams only won five games last season. They don’t appear to have recovered from the injury bug. Carson Wentz will hopefully make an impact with Los Angeles and help them turn their season around.
