Recruiting Update: The Wolverines are hoping to to land two highly rated quarterback after reportedly leading the race to sign the dual-threat quarterback

The Michigan Wolverines are coming off their season-high victory over the Penn State Nittany Lions in Happy Valley. The victory was significant for a number of reasons, but it also provided everyone with a good indication of how Michigan compares to the best teams in the country.

The Wolverines proved they are as dominant as advertised, which helps them not only in the rankings but also in the recruiting process.

Michigan is the frontrunner in the search for a dual-threat quarterback.
With 2025 four-star quarterback Carter Smith, Michigan looks to follow in the footsteps of J.J. McCarthy as the college football landscape continues to favor quick dual-threat gunslingers.

The Wolverines hosted Smith for a primetime game against the Purdue Boilermakers a few weeks ago, and the prospect was impressed not only by the game, but also by the Big House in general.

According to his post-game interview with 247Sports’ Steve Wiltfong ($), Smith believes Michigan would be a good fit for him, saying, “I think I fit their offensive scheme, and I think I’ll be able to really develop as a quarterback there.” The people there were of high quality; everyone was down to earth and friendly.

Following Smith’s comments last week, it appeared that Michigan was on the right track. The young quarterback praised the coaching staff and the culture at Michigan. Wiltfong cast a Crystal Ball in favor of the Maize and Blue.

Smith is currently ranked 14th in the country in the class of 2025. The Wolverines are still pursuing the nation’s top passer, in-state five-star Bryce Underwood. Although landing both quarterbacks would be ideal, the Wolverines are unwilling to put all of their eggs in one basket.

Following 2024 four-star Jadyn Davis, Michigan is making it a priority to continue its recruiting success at the quarterback position after missing out on several prospects and not drafting a signal-caller in the 2023 class.

Michigan hopes to benefit from the coaching change at Boise State.
Every program understands that there are still dogs in the race until pen meets paper. That is undoubtedly true for four-star wide receiver Gatlin Bair. The Wolverines actively recruited the No. 10 ranked receiver in the 2024 class, and he visited in late June before committing to the Boise State Broncos in early August.

Boise State has had a difficult season thus far, currently standing at 5-5 and on the verge of its first losing season since 1997. The program decided to part ways with head coach Andy Avalos on Sunday, despite his 22-14 record. With the program’s coaching future uncertain, other schools have renewed their interest in Bair.

The quick receiver is a multi-sport athlete who also competes in track and field. He has exceptional speed in the 100- and 200-meter dashes, as well as impressive jumping numbers. Bair has all the makings of a future star receiver. At six-foot-two, he would be an excellent downfield threat for the Wolverines.

Before committing to Boise State, Bair was heavily recruited by the Oregon Ducks. With his trip to Oregon this past weekend, what appeared to be a firm commitment turned out to be anything but. Look for the Wolverines to make a strong push as they try to reclaim the No. 1 recruit in Idaho.

Michigan has landed a five-star power forward commitment.
On the recruiting front, the Wolverines are making a name for themselves. Khani Rooths, a five-star power forward in 2024, committed to the Wolverines on Sunday. Rooths, a power forward from IMG Academy in Bradenton, Florida, is a top-30 recruit overall and a top-10 power forward in the class.

In Rooths’ recruitment, the Wolverines came down to the wire against Georgia and Florida State, but won.

“I chose Michigan because I’m a big guy on relationships and how genuine people are,” Rooths told Dushawn London of 247Sports. “I feel like coach Juwan, the coaching staff and the players have a real good family atmosphere and environment that I want to be apart of.”

The Wolverines were the last team to host Rooths before he made his final decision, which is usually a good sign when making the final pitch to potential commits. The coaching staff, as well as current players Dug McDaniel and Terrance Williams, visited Rooths in Ann Arbor.

“Everyone on the staff, from coach Juwan to the GA, played a role in this, and then there were the players.” There was no standout player, but they now have two DMC guys on the team in Dug McDaniel and Terrance Williams.”

Despite the fact that Howard’s recent heart surgery slowed his recruiting efforts, Rooths appreciated how hard he worked to bring the young star to Michigan. Now that he is healthy enough to participate in recruiting again, he was back on Rooths’ trail, which paid off in the end with his commitment. The five-star recognizes that he has the ability to make an immediate impact.

“They said I’m the guy they’re missing right now because of my versatility.” “I believe I can make an immediate impact and fit on the wing,” Rooths said. “In the last three years, they’ve had a lot of wings in the league, and their play style fits me.” I can work very well within their system.”

Rooths is excited to see how the Wolverines perform this season. With how much college basketball fluctuates throughout the season, Rooths will be watching how the team handles adversity. Rooths will not sign during the early signing period and will instead wait until the spring to do so.
